A game that starts crashing immediately after an update may have a bad cached file, insufficient working storage, an operating-system conflict or a publisher-side problem. Start with reversible checks. Do not erase app data or reinstall until progress is linked to a recoverable account.

Protect the game save first

If the game still opens long enough to reach settings, confirm the supported sign-in or transfer method, record the non-secret player ID and note the correct server or region. Do not share passwords, one-time codes, transfer codes or recovery codes. A guest save may exist only on the phone.

If the app never opens, check the developer’s official account or support page before deleting anything. The game-save transfer checklist explains what to verify. A reinstall can remove local progress and downloaded resources.

Run the low-risk checks in order

  1. Close the game and reopen it.
  2. Restart the phone.
  3. Check the official store for another game update.
  4. Install a supported Android, iOS or iPadOS update if available.
  5. Check free storage and stop other large downloads.
  6. Test on a stable connection after the phone has cooled.

Google Play’s current troubleshooting says low storage can stop apps from downloading and installing, and notes that less than 1 GB free is a warning sign. Large games often need much more temporary room to unpack resources. Do not assume the displayed patch size is the full working-space requirement.

Android: clear cache before clearing data

Android menus vary by brand, but the app information screen normally provides Force stop, Storage and cache controls. Force stop the game, reopen it and test. If the problem continues, clear only the cache first. Cached files are temporary and rebuild over time.

Clear storage or Clear data is different: it can erase sign-in state, settings, downloads and local saves. Use it only after the account and progress are verified. Keep Google Play Protect enabled and do not install an older mirror APK as a rollback.

iPhone and iPad: update before deleting

Apple recommends closing and reopening the app, restarting the device and checking for app and system updates. Deleting and redownloading is a later step, and Apple warns that locally stored data may be lost. Offloading may retain documents for some apps, but a game’s own save design remains decisive.

Before deleting, confirm the exact Apple Account and game login, then check the publisher’s official support page. After reinstalling from the App Store, stop if a new profile appears instead of the expected one.

Decide whether the problem is the game or the phone

  • If one game crashes but other apps work, check that game’s official notices and contact its developer.
  • If several demanding apps fail, review system updates, storage, heat and battery health.
  • If crashes happen only in one mode or map, record the steps and report them rather than repeatedly reinstalling.
  • If the phone shows a temperature warning, powers off or has a swollen battery, stop using it and seek device support.

Do not use a cleaner, RAM booster, graphics unlocker or network optimizer that requests accessibility, device-admin or VPN access. These tools can introduce a second problem without fixing incompatible game code.

Report a useful bug

Send the developer the game version, phone model, Android/iOS version, free storage, network type, exact crash point and steps that reproduce it. Include the time and a screenshot or screen recording if safe. Never attach a password, authentication code, recovery code or full payment receipt.

If a new official patch is announced, install it through the same store. If no fix exists, lower supported graphics settings, avoid the affected mode or wait for the developer’s update. Our heat and battery guide covers crashes accompanied by thermal throttling.
