A reinstall can make a game look new even when the old progress still exists. The most common causes are the wrong Google or Apple account, the wrong regional server, or a publisher account that was never linked. Stop before playing far into a new profile, because some games ask whether to keep the local or cloud save.
Do not overwrite the evidence
Keep the old phone untouched if it still shows the correct progress. Take screenshots of the non-secret player ID, nickname, server, level, guild and recent purchase receipts. Do not publish those screenshots in a public group; crop email addresses, transaction references and recovery details.
Avoid repeatedly clearing storage, creating new accounts or binding the new blank profile to the same social account. Those actions can make recovery harder.
Check the account chain on Android
Confirm the Google Account used by Google Play Games, then check the game’s own sign-in screen. Google explains that some supported games automatically save progress, but not every game does. The Google Account used to download an app may also differ from the account used for Play Games or the publisher login.
Open the Play Store listing and look for Play Games support, achievements or leaderboards. If the game has an account selector, compare the profile name with the old device. Do not clear Google Play services data as a first step.
Check iCloud and Game Center on iPhone
For supported games, Apple uses iCloud and Game Center to keep saves and progress available across devices. Confirm that iCloud and Game Center use the same Apple Account as on the old device. Some games additionally require their own publisher account, Facebook login or transfer code.
Verify the server and game edition
Games can separate progress by country, region or server even under one login. Confirm the exact server before entering a world or creating a character. Also check that the installed app is the same official edition; global, regional and publisher-specific versions may maintain separate databases.
Prepare a useful support request
Use the support link in the official store listing or the publisher’s website. Provide the old player ID, server, approximate account-creation date, last successful login, device models and redacted purchase receipts. State which sign-in methods you tested. Support should not need your password, OTP, backup code or complete card number.
Prevent the next loss
- Bind progress to a supported account before repairing, resetting or replacing a phone.
- Record the player ID and server privately.
- Keep recovery email and phone details current.
- Verify cloud progress on a second trusted device before erasing the first.
- Keep purchase receipts, but never post them publicly.
