Public Wi-Fi at a café, mall, hotel, airport, school or transport terminal can be useful for a large game update, but it is not the best place for a password reset, account recovery or expensive purchase. Use the network only after confirming it, and separate low-risk downloading from high-risk account actions.
Verify the network before joining
Ask venue staff for the exact network name and whether a captive login page is expected. A stronger signal or familiar-looking name does not prove that a hotspot belongs to the venue. Avoid duplicate names with unexpected punctuation or a portal that asks for a game password, store password, payment card, one-time code or device unlock PIN.
Apple describes captive networks as public hotspots that show a login or terms page. A legitimate portal may ask you to accept terms or provide access details, but it should not require installing a game APK, certificate, configuration profile, remote-support app or unknown VPN.
Use mobile data or a personal hotspot for sensitive steps
If practical, switch to a trusted mobile connection before changing passwords, adding a recovery method, entering a one-time code or buying currency. On a shared device, do not save the game or store password. Turn on two-step verification or a passkey where the game account and connected Google or Apple account support it.
Google notes that a second verification step helps protect an account even if a password is stolen. Never approve an unexpected sign-in prompt just because it appears while joining Wi-Fi.
Download only from the official store
- Open the game’s official developer site or its known Google Play/App Store page.
- Confirm the title, publisher and application listing.
- Keep Google Play Protect enabled on Android.
- Reject browser pop-ups offering a smaller APK, update accelerator or region unlock.
- Install later patches through the same official store or official client.

Check the download before using prepaid data
A store package may be followed by larger in-game resources. Review the store size, the game’s resource screen and available phone storage before starting. Keep enough prepaid balance or data allowance for retries, and avoid beginning a mandatory update shortly before a tournament or scheduled session.

Forget the network after use
Turn off automatic joining for a public network you do not need again, or forget it after the download. Apple explains that known public networks can auto-join based on saved history and settings. Review the connected network before the next sign-in or purchase rather than assuming the phone chose the intended hotspot.
After leaving, check the game and store account’s recent security activity if anything unusual occurred. Change a password from a trusted connection if credentials were entered into a suspicious portal, and revoke unrecognized sessions. - Usually acceptable: downloading from a verified official store, reading patch notes and playing without account changes.
